Odd Geir Sæther (born 1941) is a Norwegian cinematographer and TV director who has been involved in many Norwegian and international feature films, commercials and information films.

 

Sæther debuted as a camera assistant in 1960 on the film Petter from Ruskøy, and as a director at Arne Skouen Vaktpostene from 1965. In the same period, he also photographed the Reisen til havet (1966) and Musicians (1967). Through major assignments in the 1970s he became one of Norway's leading cinematographers. He debuted as a photographer on television in 1970 where he had a photo on the television studio Selma Brøter. After that he had a photo on the television series Alberte (1972) and Edvard Munch (1974). In the same decade he also had pictures on Sverre Udnæs' two films: Mrs Inger to Østråt (1975) and The moment (1977). He has also had a picture of several foreign productions, including the famous Swedish action thriller The Man on the Roof (1976), the German television production Keiner Kann was dafür (1978), the Multinational War Documentary Travel (1987) and the French La commune (Paris, 1871) (2000). In 2006 he had photo assignments at David Lynch's drama mystery Inland Empire.

 

Sæther has also had regional assignments, including the film comedy The Green Elevator from 1981, and several of the TV Theater's performances in 1979-1981.

 

In the early 1960s he was involved in several of the so-called house morph films, which were humorous instructional films.

 

Sæther was awarded Arne Skouens Ærespris in 2008 at the opening of The Norwegian Film Institute.

I samme periode fotograferte han også Reisen til havet (1966) og Musikanter (1967). Gjennom store oppgaver på 1970-tallet ble han etter hvert en av Norges ledende filmfotografer. Han debuterte som fotograf på TV i 1970 hvor han hadde foto på Fjernsynsteatrets Selma Brøter. Etter det hadde han foto på Tv-seriene Alberte (1972) og Edvard Munch (1974). Han hadde i samme tiår også foto på Sverre Udnæs' to filmer: Fru Inger til Østråt (1975) og Øyeblikket (1977). Han har også hatt foto på flere utenlandske produksjoner, blant annet den kjente svenske action-thrilleren Mannen på taket (1976), den tyske TV-produksjonen Keiner kann was dafür (1978), den flernasjonale krigsdokumentaren Resan (1987), og den franske La commune (Paris, 1871) (2000). I 2006 hadde han foto-oppdrag på David Lynchs dramamystery Inland Empire.

 

Sæther har også hatt regioppdrag, blant annet på filmkomedien Den grønne heisen fra 1981, og flere av Fjernsynsteatrets oppsetinger i perioden 1979-1981.

 

På begynnelsen av 1960-tallet var han involvert i flere av de såkalte husmorfilmene, som var humoristiske instruksjonsfilmer.

 

Sæther ble tildelt Arne Skouens Ærespris under åpningen av Norsk Filminstitutt i 2008.
